Welcome to the BarnTek Wiki

Since 2005, we have been involved in planning, building and launching balloons to the edges of outer space; a region known as Near Space. Our first launch in 2007 didn’t turn out so well… ok we’ll call it a total loss as far as hardware is concerned. But lessons learned and the satisfaction that comes from bringing a project like this together brought us back in 2008, which was a total success. New experiments and new technology in 2009 made the flight data very interesting. 2010 is shaping up to be our most ambitious yet with video and possibly camera stabilizers designed and built by the team. These will chronicle our successes, and failures and provide as much information as we can stuff on these pages. Additionally, we’d love to hear from other people or groups who are planning and launching Near Space flights as well as those interested in the concept or interested in getting started. And we have received an expression of interest from a school group about lifting a class experiment. We’re really excited about the prospect of helping promote an interest in science and technology.

As for the website, this rather ambitious project will hopefully become a resource for Near Space researchers, hobbyists and those interested in using balloons to explore space.
