The site is looking good...  Will be nice to have a place to share all this stuff instead of email...
Thanks for the hard work...

Hey, the site is really looking good.  When you get ready for it, we can post the stuff I did for 2009 and then you can add or take away what you want.  This is saved as front page so it should be just a matter of changing the ftp site to send it to.
Looks like you have been busy and it is really paying off.  Thanks for a nice site...

Ok you can start posting when you like...If you don't have the admin account information for posting to the ftp site, let me know by private message here or email me (dan@barntek.net)...If I haven't already done it, create a folder called Balloon2009, I'll also add Balloon2007 as well...you can use these as a 'junk box' if you want and just dump relevant stuff into the folders until we can sort it out and post it on a page...I was gonna start doing that today, putting all the pictures and spreadsheets and datasheets in the appropriate folders so I could see what all we have available (should be a LOT of stuff)...If you don't mind me tinkering with your website, I'll put our logo header on your 2009 site once you've uploaded it, but I'll leave the links back to your home page...Anyway, the design is almost there, now the REAL work starts, getting all the content in...Oh yeah, if anybody still has the video of the 2007 launch, we can split that up into chunks of the bits where something was actually happening...I don't think we have any video of 2008 and 2009 but if anybody has some, please let me know and we'll post it in the appropriate spot as well...

I think I sent you what you were asking for.  It is all in 'Balloon2009' folder.  The photos are in a seperate folder.  The htm page refers to that folder for the pics.

I'll check around and see if I have any video for 2008.  I think Mama took some.

Boy, godaddy sure is slow during the day.  I guess they have a lot of business customers that max it out.  Night time seems ok, though.  That is when we are using it the most anyway.

I have translated Larry's code to 'C' but so far, have failed to make it work.  I guess I'll have to wait for him to get back from vacation to meby get some answers.

Hope Liz gets her card.  We were late mailing it.

Balloon 2009 is linked on the Home page only right now, and I haven't updated the the original links on Daddy's website ... but it's there!! heheh I will convert it to the Barntek design (you WILL be assimilated!) and fix the menu links so they work on barntek...the Home page is the only one so far that's been converted to php so the other pages will pick up the 2009 link as I update them...

Balloon2009 is online now and fully converted to php...I took the liberty of changing the style of the accelerometer data page a bit so it launches an independent page in a stripped down browser window and a close button at the bottom...take a look and see what you think..I can do something else if you don't like it...I also added a copyright notice at the bottom for you...your pictures came out a lot sharper and brighter than the ones on my 2008 page, I think because the 2008 page was converted from a Word document...I may have to look at redoing the pics...Your 2009 definitely looks much better..

I will be converting the rest of the pages to php tomorrow

Wow!  Don't change anything.  It looks really nice.  Sometime today, I will change my link to point to the Barntek page.  Try to get some sleep sometime though....  :)

Wow Guys...the site looks really good!!  I know several people who will be interested in looking at it.  I wish I knew more about it so I could help.

Ok tonite I converted the Balloon 2008 and the Near Space website to php...I think all I have left to convert is the Dan's Writeup page underneath Balloon2008, then they will all have a common menu...cheryl: re your post..I don't know how much time you have to put into it, but I was wanting to add a 'wiki' to the site..that will be a big job putting that all together, but if you'd like you can work on that...also, I'm not very artsy, but was thinking that a logo using the pic at the top left of the Balloon2009 page and barntek written across it would be kinda neat...I have photoshop, but it takes me hours to do anything with it because I just don't have a good eye for stuff like that...the current logo is just Barntek written in a nice font on a transparent background...really inventive, eh?  :) Anyway, think about it...

Just out of curiosity...  What is a "wiki"???

Title: Re: Adding to the Web site..
Post by: Dan on September 12, 2009, 06:00:53 PM
A wiki is like a general knowledge base that is fully searchable and everybody can add to the content when they think of it...Like a checklist for launch, I could write one out using the best of my memory but you or someone else could say, but wait there's a step between 2 and 3 that you forgot...you could go and add that step and we would still have only one checklist, only better...rather than poring through all these notes and cluging one checklist together...I still like this bulletin board for posting requests and stuff (I want a email account) but the wiki could hold the combined experience of what we've learned about what works and what doesn't work...dunno, just one of the things I was thinking...Here's something better:

What is a wiki? (http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/network/2006/07/07/what-is-a-wiki.html)

Ok, as in Wikipedia....   Gotcha, Thanks...

Title: Re: Adding to the Web site..
Post by: Dan on September 12, 2009, 10:37:30 PM
Ok, Balloon2007 has a parking page, just something to fill out the menu...I will add the wiki and see if there is any interest in using it...if not, should be an easy uninstall (and we'll still have 23 MySQL databases left to play with)...if so, we keep it...I'll read the article I posted earlier to see if I can figure out the best way to use it..

Next project:  Creating a photo gallery that will automatically see what photos are available in a given directory, and create thumbnails with links to them...That should be fun!

Title: Re: Adding to the Web site..
Post by: Dan on September 14, 2009, 02:17:34 AM
The guts of the photo gallery is done...I've uploaded it and it works ok...It 'globs' the files in the directory you give it and then puts them on a web page...a small javascript opens a window and shows a bigger version of the pic when you click on the picture...

Right now, they're all thrown in together but I want to eventually figure out a way that we can categorize the pics in different folders so it makes a little more sense to whoever is viewing them...

Title: New Photo Gallery
Post by: Dan on September 15, 2009, 05:32:40 AM
OK I have the new photo gallery up and running...I don't have it linked to the menu yet, but you can check it out at pics.barntek.net (or photos.barntek.net, or gallery.barntek.net) I'm still learning how to work it ... Have a look around it and tell me (honestly) what you think, they have two more I can choose from if you don't like this one...Also, the whole design can be changed fairly easily, go to the designer's web page (http://www.coppermine.com) and go to the Demo...it has about 250 odd "Themes" that you can use for the outward design of the app...If you find one you really like, we'll use it...I'll post instructions on how to upload pics and stuff when I get a good handle on how it works...

PS the photo gallery that I wrote was so bad I immediately took it down tonite...

I like it...  it is really fast, which was the one complaint I had about the old one.  I haven't looked at any of the other themes, but I don't have a problem with this one.

Title: Re: Adding to the Web site..
Post by: DaddyB on September 15, 2009, 01:19:22 PM
I like this.  It is much faster.  If you would like, I can upload some from the balloon that have been cropped.  Looks like you are using 800x600 size.  I'll resize them before I send them.

Post by: Cheryl on September 15, 2009, 02:47:05 PM
Ok...I have read a little about wiki's.  I will have to do a lot more research on that.  I do have an idea to add to your logo.  I will work on that and send it to you for your approval/disapproval.

Title: Re: New Photo Gallery
Post by: Dan on September 15, 2009, 09:42:26 PM
Whew! Ok a few things for this one...

Yes, I'm using 800x600 on the pics that I'm uploading...The gallery had fits with the original size, so I had to reduce them...I found a Microsoft PowerToy for XP (dunno if they have a version for Vista) called Image Resizer...It loads into your menu (ie right click on a pic, or selection of pics) and pick it from the menu...gives you a choice of sizes to reduce it down to or lets you custom size it...I knew there had to be a better way than loading each one individually in Photoshop and resizing it from there...

The photo gallery also keeps the pics you upload in special directory, or directory tree and I think it uses the original uploads to show the larger version of the pics...I will create some folders up there to keep them organized (balloon2007, balloon2008 etc with appropriate subdirs) but as you upload, please add more subdirectories as you see fit...Once the pics are uploaded, let me know and I can batch add them to the gallery...I will get you guys admin access so you can do the batch add as well...normal users can only upload a couple at a time...Then the time consuming part comes when you start captioning and describing them..Oh and the upload folders are located under /coppermine/albums/...  I have one folder there now that I created before I really knew what was going on with it called "batch_up" but it turns out that it contains photos from the balloon looking up..hahaha

I will post here when I get the folders set up...

I just downloaded an image resize program (Free!) for Vista.  It works really well.
It is not a seperate program, but is incorporated in microsoft image programs such as MS Picture Manager.

Here is where I found it: Click Here (http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2009/09/imageresizer-powertoy-rewritten-to-work-on-vista-windows-7.ars)

Thanks...this one will work on my laptop...these are gonna make it so much easier to upload the pics for the gallery, I was dreading having to change them one by one...Anyway, I have the basic pic folders created...If anybody wants to volunteer to help label the pics let me know...

If you want, I'll upload some of the pictures from the balloon with the instrument package cropped out.
There are also some nice cropped photos taken horizontally that I can upload.  I guess I need to rename them.
That resize routine is almost better than the invention of the wheel... ha ha..

I have uploaded some pictures for the 'prep' of the 09 flight.  See if you like them.  You can erase the ones you don't want.
I will start on some 'flight' pics later. :)

Title: Fixing stuff in the Web site..
Post by: Dan on October 27, 2009, 12:20:07 AM
I noticed that the 2009 mission page was getting some overlap at the top (on my browser) so I moved some of the text boxes around so they wouldn't be underneath the pictures, but it started domino-ing and I'd move one and have to move another...I think I have it now, though...if you notice something like that happening, let me know and I'll work on fixing it...let me know what browser you're using when you see it because some browsers show pages differently...I'm trying to stay away from programming the stuff to be browser specific (if IE, show it this way, if Firefox, show it that way...) but I'll learn how to do it if I have to...

Title: Re: Adding to the Web site..
Post by: DaddyB on October 27, 2009, 12:56:07 AM
I noticed that some of the text was offset but I thought it was my browser.  I set up the page using Front Page 2003.  I think I set it up for a too-wide page which looked ok on my browser but didn't think about how it might look on another computer.
Everything looks great now all of the text is where it is supposed to be.
BTW, I am running IE-8 here.
I have some close up photos of modifying the camera for control by the microcontloller, and thought I would put them up on a page on wiki.  Is that where it should go, or should I upload them to the galery?

Everything looks so very good!!

I would say wiki for now...Or both...Wiki would have the whole writeup and explanation while the photo gallery only gets a small caption

Title: Busy Day
Post by: Dan on November 07, 2009, 10:09:08 PM
1. Fixed the Accelerometer Data (2009) page which wrongly identified the date of the mission as 20 July 2009...changed it to 20 June 2009 (although the 40th anniversary of the Moon Landing would have been more dramatic  :D )

2. Finally figured out where to make the changes to the Picture Gallery so that it looks like the rest of the site...Not counting the blog, which is no longer visible, it was the last part of the site that was to be converted

3.  Added gallery links to the main menu that point to the relevant parts of the Picture Gallery

4.  Put a pretty picture on the main page so it's not so boring

Still working on it through the weekend and will post all changes as I go...
